The crystal waters of the Jokulsarlon Lagoon are the melted remains of Europe’s largest glacier, Breidamerkurjokull. Icebergs break off of the massive glacier, splashing into the lagoon. Here they float for weeks or months, gradually melting, until they are eventually washed out to sea. The transcendental beauty of this scene illumines as the sun hovers for hours just below the horizon, in the midst of the summer solstice.
