As the sun descends into the midnight twilight of the summer solstice, the tide retreats into the ocean. In its wake, icebergs are abandoned on the volcanic black sand. Having been swept into the sea by the Jokulsa River and then washed ashore by the waves, they are left glowing azure in the purpureal light of dusk. The clouds, whisking overhead, interchange the reflecting light with the waters, infusing both with an amethystine appearance.
